Tough Body & High Performance Imaging | World's Fastest*1 AF | Live View | Versatile Functions
To enable accurate framing all the way to the corners of the image, the E-3's large, high-precision pentaprism employs high refractive index glass, while its eyepiece optics use glass lenses. The result is a large, easy-view optical viewfinder with approx. 100% field of view and 1.15x magnification*2. A highly reflective silver coating is used in the pentaprism, and all of the optical lenses are surface-coated to minimize optical loss, thereby ensuring bright viewfinder images.
The E-3 has been designed to allow the large, high-precision pentaprism to manifest its full performance. Optimum lens layout minimizes alteration of magnification after diopter correction. The eyepiece uses laminated glass to compensate for colour blurs in the viewfinder image.
Wireless control of multiple flashes is possible using the optional FL-50R and/or FL-36R flashes. No external commander is required as the built-in flash incorporates a commander function. Any flash operation, including activation or deactivation of up to 3 flash groups, selection of flashing or FP flashing, and adjustment of the flash light intensity, can be set using the Super Control Panel on the camera.
Even a very small piece of dust can show up in your pictures once it gets on the image sensor. To prevent this, the E-3 incorporates a highly reliable Dust Reduction System that employs a Supersonic Wave Filter (SSWF) in front of the image sensor. Vibrating at an ultrahigh speed of over 30,000 times a second, the SSWF blasts the dust away from the sensor, removing even the most stubborn dust particles. It can even remove dust attached by intermolecular force that cannot be removed merely by shaking the image sensor or by discharging the static electricity. The dust is captured by a dust absorber, and the space between the image sensor and SSWF is hermetically sealed so that no dust can penetrate into the low-pass filter or image sensor.
The E-3 is provided with a dual slot that accepts a CompactFlash (CF Type I, II) or a Microdrive card and an xD-Picture Card. Data can be copied between different media and a second card can be used to backup the main card used for recording.

The histogram display shows the recorded image's luminance information, while the highlight display shows the over-exposed areas and the shadow display shows the under-exposed areas. In addition, the light box display allows you to compare two magnified images side by side.
